Responsible Person is used across Salute to assign an individual as accountable/responsible for that record or item within the context of the workflows that are tracked in Salute for purposes of EHS or otherwise.
The Responsible Person is the individual at any given time who is the designated individual currently accountable for the actionable items for the Salute data point/record they're associated with. They are the go-to person for questions on any item/record in Salute. See the following examples:
-
The person who is Responsible for conducting the investigation for the Incident.
-
The person who is Responsible for inspecting Fire Extinguishers.

Email Notifications to the Responsible Person
Notifications are triggered when a Responsible Person has something actionable in the system e.g., an Incident, a Finding, an Assessment, an Assessment Queue that has been assigned for them to follow to closure.
Where there is nothing actionable that needs to be closed out, completed, or finalized, there are no email notifications e.g., a Responsible Person related to Equipment, a Location, etc.
Owners
While an Owner may be responsible for the area or item related to the Salute data point/record, they may not necessarily have responsibility as far as EHS workflows go. See the following examples:
-
A Department Head or Area Safety Officer may be the Owner of a space where an Incident occurred, but there is an EHS member assigned as the Responsible Person accountable for the Incident documentation/investigation.
-
A PI may be the Owner of a space where there is a Chemical Hood, but John Smith from OPP Safety is the Responsible Person for the workflows that we are tracking in Salute, like fume hood certs.

Email Notifications to the Owner
Being listed as an Owner of a Salute data point/record does NOT trigger email notifications, as these individuals, while associated, are not accountable for any of the EHS workflows being tracked in Salute related to this item.
